Silenx Ixtrema 120mm Case Fans Review

Installation:

Installation of the Silenx Case Fans was pretty straightforward, though there are more steps involved if you are using the rubber mounts. The rubber mounts that we received were of the short variety, which are difficult to install without pliers and sometimes require removal of other components such as power supplies. Also, I was actually impressed by the instructions that came with the fan; this was the first fan I saw that clearly described which direction to install the fans, depending if you wanted air to flow into the case or out. Kudos to Silenx for that.

After firing up the computer, I was really impressed with the noise-to-air ratio of these fans. The fans were maybe just a hair louder than some of the other high-end fans (Silenx also offers some Ultra-Quiet fans that are in the ~10 dBA range; wow!), but they moved more air than those fans. While there was no way to reduce the speed of the fans to make them even more quiet, I think the normal operations are quiet enough for most applications. The LEDs weren’t very bright compared to other fans in my computer (the pictures above are with the CPU cooler fan on and off) but they do add some color to your build.

As mentioned before, the fans come in blue and red also, so you can choose whatever color is your favorite. Not many of these high-end fans come with LEDs, though I always like the added color and style that they bring to a build.

Conclusion:

The Silenx Quiet Case Fans are definitely the real deal when it comes to case fans. These are solid-performing products that deliver results as promised. The fans are really, really quiet, yet they move a lot of air for this size of fan. And the variety of LED colors adds some pizzazz to any build. While I had a couple of nits, they really are minor, and I don’t have any major complaints about this product. If you’re looking for high-quality fans that are ultra-quiet and has good airflow, I would recommend you consider these fans for your build.

Pros:

+ Silent operations
+ Comes with useful accessories
+ Quality construction
+ Variety of LED colors offered
+ Good instructions

Cons:

- No speed adjustment
- Take a little patience to install if using vibration mounts
