Silenx Ixtrema 120mm Case Fans Review

Your typical computer case fan is a cheaply built fan that often doesn’t last long and can be the loudest source of noise in your computer. AcousticPC.com was generous enough to send us 4 different Silenx Quiet Case Fans in a well-packaged container with another product to review (coming soon). The product arrived quickly and undamaged (great customer service from that site!). Three of the fans had different LED colors (red/blue/green), while the last one has a nice bronze color to it. I like how you can choose your LED color to match your particular setup. The back of each package provides a list of features and specifications.

Opening up the packages, the fans and their associated accessories are found to be well-secured. Each fan comes with rubber vibration-isolation mounts, a set of regular fan screws, an adapter cable, and instructions. We’ve seen these types of rubber mounts on other high-end fans made by Noctua and Acousti products; these help further reduce noise by dampening the vibration transmitted to the case. In many cases, that vibration is the loudest source of noise, not the fan itself.

When I first picked up the fan, I noticed that they are very light, which is nice when you’re looking to reduce case weight. From that first impression, I felt that this was a high-quality fan. Attached to the fan is the standard 3-pin case fan connector cable, with plenty of length for routing.

To add more versatility to this product, the fan also comes with an adaptor cable allows you to plug the fan into the any available 4-pin molex connector, instead of having to connect it to a 3 pin case fan outlet on the motherboard. If you’re like me and have a bunch of case fans, this added adapter cable allows for one more fan to be added.
